Biomedica: Cross-site self-service analytics with Qlik Sense

3 min read Sep 22, 2021

As a leading distributor of medical devices and products in the fields of medical devices, in-vitro diagnostics and life sciences, Biomedica decided in spring 2020 to automate and digitalize its data analysis and internal reporting. The goal was to provide employees with standardized reports containing a uniform database. This was achieved with the business intelligence solution Qlik Sense and the implementation partner BE-terna.

The path to Qlik Sense

In the past, Biomedica worked with a large number of Excel spreadsheets to map and evaluate the company's data. As an internationally-operating company, it is particularly important to Biomedica that the individual locations always have access to a uniform and constantly up-to-date database in order to be able to generate standardized reports. The Business Intelligence solution Qlik Sense impressed Biomedica with its intuitive handling and compatibility with the existing system. BE-terna was selected as the implementation partner due to the professional appearance of the sales team and the local support in Austria.

Project success thanks to agile processes

The BE-terna team opted for an agile project method in order to ensure increased flexibility and to be able to optimally implement the customer's requirements. The cooperation between the Biomedica and BE-terna teams ran smoothly, meaning that both BE-terna and Biomedica are very satisfied with the result. Ronja Woloszczuk, Corporate Project Manager at Biomedica, is pleased:
The solution represents everything we imagined at the beginning. The communication was always very straightforward, and our wishes were responded to quickly.
However, the preliminary planning should have been looked at more closely at the beginning of the project with more focus on detailed issues in order to be able to better estimate the time frame.

Easier reporting thanks to self-service analytics

Qlik Sense is now used across the company in various departments.

The self-service analysis options mean fewer administrative tasks. All employees have access to the same data, so they can quickly and easily create the necessary reports themselves

reports Ronja Woloszczuk.

Overall, since the introduction of the modern end-to-end data integration and analysis platform Qlik Sense, Biomedica's employees have access to a large amount of new data, such as information on orders and sales. The number of reports has not only increased; reports have also become more accurate and flexible.

For example, sales staff always have access to open orders and current stock levels. In addition, sales statistics are available that show, among other things, the sales quantity per item, the respective customer, the turnover and the margin.

Thanks to reporting in Qlik Sense, the latest company data and KPIs can be accessed at any time at the click of a mouse and have replaced a multitude of manually created standard reports.

Intelligent data transformation

Realise the value of your data and grow your business with the power of Qlik.
