Ana: What is the job of Application Consultant like?

Ana, if you could choose 3 adjectives to describe Adacta's culture, what would they be? Relaxed, Diverse and Dynamic

When and why did you join BE-terna as an Application Consultant, what initially drew you to the company?

I joined BE-terna along with all of my co-workers from our previous company, as BE-terna had taken over that company. The funny thing is that even before the buyout, I had been interested in working here, I had even applied and had an interview, but then got the info that there was no need for a second interview as I would be employed by BE-terna a couple of days later anyway.

What is the job of Application Consultant like at BE-terna? What is a typical day like for you?

My typical day begins early, around 6 a.m., as I need some peace and quiet in the morning to organise my day. I get some coffee and then start by answering my emails, then returning or taking some calls from customers.

A few times a week, I have workshops with users where I teach them how to use our software, and when we have a go-live in progress these tend to occur every day. This requires a lot of patience and understanding of what the basic business processes are at each specific company, and how to best implement the software to match their needs as easily as possible. I also have to analyse the requirements of the company and write a development specification, then coordinate the execution of the request with the programmer assigned to the task.

What are the pros and cons of being an Application Consultant?

I like challenges and in this profession each day is a challenge. Each day you learn new things, even if these things are not always specifically related to your work but to your general knowledge.
Sometimes there is immense pressure to finish the project to meet the client’s needs, to do a good job as you are the one in the firing line and taking all the 'hits' . However, if you are the type of person who works best under pressure, then this can be a pro rather than a con.

What does it take to be an Application Consultant?

It depends on what kind of application consultant you aim to be. Knowledge can be acquired, through study and experience. Things that are more difficult to acquire include patience, enthusiasm, interest, ambition.
We interact with different people every day, co-workers, customers, business partners etc. And that sometimes requires you to be something of a psychologist, a teacher, a student and a leader if you want to meet everyone’s expectations.

Who would you recommend Adacta as an employer to?

I would recommend Adacta to anyone at the beginning of their career or someone with ambitions to get knowledge fast. There is no better way to learn and grow as fast as being in our line of business.

When I was a kid I wanted to be... 😉

When I was a kid I wanted to be everything; A pianist, a basketball player, a gymnast, a mathematician, a lawyer, an economist, a computer scientist. And then suddenly I turned 18 and came to Slovenia, and decided I wanted to stay here so I chose my career and university course wisely so I would be able to accomplish the last two of those wishes.

Every person is a story

We don’t just fill roles, BE-You!
