Iva: A dream of an Application Consultant: Homemade cookies in faraway Kenya?

4 min read Aug 13, 2021

We can bet that an ultra-trail race is not the first thing that comes to your mind when somebody mentions application consultants. However, we would like to introduce our colleague Iva, who likes races, adores animals, and has an interest in stories of 'ordinary' people, as well as extraordinary plans to visit faraway Kenya.

If you could meet any famous person who would they be, why and what would you ask her/him?

Sir David Frederick Attenborough, because of his extensive travels and experiences with nature, which amaze me.
I would ask him to talk about his best/worst animal encounters, his most emotional people stories, and the changes he saw during his career.

What is your favorite band, movie, book, and food?

Band: I am a huge music lover and I always have some music on when I am at my house or in the car, but I constantly change genres depending on the time of the year, mood or company I am with. So, at the moment, I am a big fan of Đorđe Miljenović's new music genre and his amazing band with great musicians.

Movie: „As Good as It Gets “. I am a big fan of comedy movies 😋

Book: „Never say you are afraid “by Giuseppe Catozzella. A very emotional book about woman's strength and the struggle for a better life.

Food: Chard leaves stuffed with rice and vegetables, as well as homemade cookies. I love cooking and making up my own recipes, especially when it comes to sweets 😊

What are you most proud of?

My daughters ♥

How do you charge your batteries?

Going as far as I can from civilization into the mountains or entering an ultra-trail race 🏃

What is your favorite place on Earth?

I think it would have to be Africa (Kenya), although I have never been there. For as long as I can remember, I have been watching the plains of Kenya on TV, and my grandfather worked there for several years, so I was listening to the stories about it, its culture, customs, ordinary people's lives, and, of course, animals. I always imagine sitting in the grass and watching animals in the calm sunset of Masai Mara National Reserve🌞

What do you do at BE-terna? What does your typical day look like?

It all starts with greetings and morning routines such as breakfast, coffee, tea, or juice. The daily stand-up meeting is the best way to step into a working day. Positive energy and good organization make tasks glide through the agile board as the day passes by. Lunch is a special treat in BE-terna, as you can sit with different people each day due to the big dining room, and approximately at the same lunchtime. Interaction with team members on various projects can be very interesting on a daily basis, especially when you are working with programmers or colleagues from other countries. Then you have an opportunity to learn new things and see how D365FO operates under the surface.

What are the pros/cons of your job?

A consultant’s job relies on communication with clients, team members, stakeholders, and regular workers.

Pros of this position are the ability to meet new people or line of businesses every day, to start working with a new company and get to know it from top to bottom, as well as all or most of its staff. That diversity of knowledge can’t be obtained in any other field in such a short time.

Cons, of course, lie in the fact that when working with people, it is impossible to avoid having stressful situations from time to time, especially when a project is near go-live or some change needs implementing. But the ability to overcome those obstacles and to successfully finish the project makes it all worth it.

If you could describe BE-terna in 3 words, what would they be?

Positive, beehive (there are a lot of very smart and witty bees there), innovative

To whom would you recommend/suggest BE-terna as an employer?

To anyone who is not afraid to aim a little higher, to acquire new knowledge, and to be a part of the innovations.

However, you should be prepared to make an extra effort when needed too.

Do you have some questions related to Kenya or about an innovative and positive beehive where Iva works? If the answer is 'Absolutely!', do not waste a single second and reach out to us!

EVERY PERSON IS A STORY

We don’t just fill roles, BE-You!
