For generations, Wirkes has stood for premium traditional attire. But as the company grew and faced evolving market demands, its existing ERP system hit its limits. The heavily customized Microsoft Dynamics NAV solution could no longer be updated, restricting efficiency across core business processes.

To stay agile and competitive, Wirkes chose to upgrade to BE-terna Fashion for Dynamics 365 Business Central. Together with BE-terna, the company implemented a modern, standardized, and scalable solution that streamlines processes and paves the way for future growth.

A complete world of traditional fashion

Wirkes Dirndl Trachten & Ledermoden GmbH is one of the largest regional retailers for traditional attire, operating 23 stores across Bavaria and Salzburg. The company partners with well-known brands like Marjo, Wenger, Sportalm, Krüger, and Stockerpoint, and also successfully markets its own labels: Gamsbock and Sissi ey! – both known for their fashionable looks and top-tier quality.

Following its merger with Almwelt GmbH, company management became more complex. New locations and an expanded product range made modernizing the ERP system unavoidable.

Tradition meets innovation

Wirkes understood that a standardized solution was essential for long-term efficiency and competitiveness. The former ERP setup, based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV, had become outdated due to extensive customizations. Finance and inventory management ran in separate systems, limiting transparency and process efficiency. Additionally, the legacy system lacked the flexibility to keep pace with the company’s growth and changes.

After thorough evaluation, Wirkes opted for BE-terna Fashion for Dynamics 365 Business Central. Tailored to the fashion industry, the solution combines best-practice standard processes with maximum flexibility.

The decision was based on three main criteria:

  • Seamless integration of all business units to boost transparency and efficiency.
  • Standardization and upgradeability to stay aligned with future technology advancements.
  • Optimized inventory management to supply stores more accurately and respond better to seasonal fluctuations.

As a long-standing partner, BE-terna guided the migration effectively—preserving and enhancing proven processes throughout.

From planning to go-live

The project kicked off in 2023 with a detailed analysis, followed by the official launch in February 2024. One of the major challenges was data migration. While master data was transferred, Wirkes deliberately chose to restart its transactional data, ensuring cleaner, higher-quality datasets.

Go-live took place in November 2024 after an intense testing phase. Joint efforts, open communication, and a final team event helped build trust in the new solution and strengthened collaboration across all sites.

Early wins and long-term benefits

Just weeks after go-live, Wirkes experienced significant improvements:

  • Fully integrated finance and inventory systems, resulting in more transparent and streamlined operations.
  • Greater flexibility in inventory management, enabling better store allocation and inter-branch redistribution.
  • Intuitive user interface, allowing employees to get up to speed quickly and make changes easily.

A step into the future

With its migration to BE-terna Fashion for Dynamics 365 Business Central, Wirkes achieved a key milestone. The transition was completed on schedule and nearly within budget—despite a few unforeseen challenges along the way.

“The collaboration with BE-terna was consistently professional, efficient, and on equal footing. We were especially impressed by the transparent communication.”
Martin Spingler, IT Director, Wirkes

Thanks to its new ERP solution, Wirkes is now well equipped to meet current demands and future developments—allowing the company to focus on what it does best: blending tradition with innovation in the world of traditional fashion.
