Smarter e-document workflow starts with Business Central

3 min read Jul 31, 2025

Let your documents move as fast as your business. With the upcoming update in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, managing and sharing electronic documents is about to get easier. By connecting the E-Documents framework with Power Automate, your team can build flexible workflows, reduce manual steps, and connect seamlessly with tools like Microsoft Teams and other platforms.

What is new and why it matters

E-documents are a part of your everyday business but handling them efficiently is what really makes the difference. The new enhancements let you automate how electronic sales and purchase documents flow across your systems without needing custom development.

Whether you are sending, receiving, or previewing documents, the experience is now simpler, faster, and more reliable.

A closer look at the key benefits

  • Smarter integration: Connect Business Central with Power Automate to build document workflows that fit your process quickly and seamlessly .
  • Send and share in one step: Send documents through both your document exchange service and email at the same time. Your partners get exactly what they need in the format they expect.
  • Automatic document reception: Purchase documents now arrive directly in Business Central. You can preview and check them before moving forward.
  • Preview documents clearly: Even if a file arrives in XML, you can now view invoices and credit memos in a clean, readable format.
  • Cleaner data and fewer errors: The system helps spot and remove incorrect or duplicate documents before they are processed. That keeps your records tidy and accurate.

Easier collaboration and better compliance

These updates also help you stay aligned with industry standards. Business Central now supports more document types such as finance charges and reminders using the widely used PEPPOL format.

And when you send sales or purchase documents, you can now embed both the structured data and a human-readable PDF in a single file. That makes it easier for both systems and people to understand and use the information.

Need to upload a batch of incoming documents? Just drag and drop multiple files at once and Business Central turns each one into an individual e-document automatically.

These enhancements also reflect the need to comply with European regulations, including Directive 2014/55/EU on electronic invoicing in public procurement. By introducing support for standards such as PEPPOL, Microsoft Business Central helps organizations meet evolving EU compliance requirements.

Available from August 2025

These features will be generally available in August 2025. If you are looking to save time, improve accuracy, and simplify how you manage digital documents, this update is a step in the right direction.
