Goran: What is the job of Solution Consultant like at BE-terna?

When and why did you join BE-terna as a Solution Consultant, what initially drew you to the company?

I officially joined BE-terna in October 2016, although I had already worked for BE-terna as a student throughout the same year. I had also connected with BE-terna in 2013 when we won the company’s case study on CRM.

What is the job of a Solution Consultant like at BE-terna? What is a typical day like for you? 

Since my work responsibilities are really a mixture of being a software developer and a solution consultant, my workdays vary a lot. On a typical day, I’d say I spend around 50% of my time coding, 30% on project management/consulting, 15% on meetings and 5% on other activities (i.e. Scrum master responsibilities).

What are the pros and cons of being a Solution Consultant?

The two greatest pros of my job are that there is not a single boring day at work as the dynamic is interesting, and the second would be that you learn something new every day. Another key thing I should mention is that you really get to learn a lot about the industries where you implement CRM and/or other business applications. 

Not everything is sunshine and rainbows though. This job isn’t for drama queens or people who cannot handle any type of pressure. I’d say the greatest challenge is to convince the client that you are providing them with the best solution out there. Sometimes they can be stubborn. 

What does it take to be a Solution Consultant?

I’ll break this question down into key requirements by role.

Solution consultants must be:

  • Capable of learning and adopting the client’s business processes
  • ·Able to convert the client’s business demands into implementation tasks

Software developers must be:

  • Capable of thinking in business contexts. Not just mindlessly solving tasks
  • Adaptive to changes in how they implement solutions, as Microsoft constantly puts out new features into the Dynamics 365 ecosystem

The following are common virtues regardless of the role

  • Being a team player
  • Keeping your day-to-day work organised and transparent 

Who would you recommend BE-terna as an employer to?

I would recommend BE-terna to all young ambitious people wanting to learn and improve themselves. BE-terna offers a great opportunity to take a crash course in adopting technologies and solving clients’ business problems. If you have what it takes, you will be rewarded with knowledge and responsibility. All it takes is hard work and the ability to keep your cool.
